- Four Days in Korea as a "Microsoft Future Leader"

本校F.3D黎忠賢同學獲選為「少年Bill Gates」未來資訊科技領袖,獲Microsoft全費贊助於本年暑假期間到韓國首爾進行資訊科技交流。下面是他的遊學日記:

July 29 th Around 5pm, we arrived at Seoul and took a private bus to Hamilton Hotel. Our group had 8 youngsters - 3 Koreans, 4 from Hong Kong (including me) and 1 from Taiwan. We were a bit shy at first. We sat down and only talked to our own friends. But after a few minutes, my roommate and I tried to communicate with the others. They joined us immediately and we had great fun thereafter. After the buffet dinner, there was an ice-breaking game. We were ordered to learn other's language in 3 minutes. It was quite difficult for the Koreans because they had to learn both Mandarin and Cantonese. I learnt some useful Korean such as com-sa-mi-da (thank you) and a-lum-dom-dom (you are pretty).

July 30th The second day we visited Jungsan High School. It is a huge school, much bigger than ours. They have a football field, basketball court, indoor gymnasium and 3 halls. Korean schools are mostly installed with interact computers in every classrooms. The first thing we did was to go to a classroom to have a talk. The talk was an introduction to the education system in Korea. Their education system is very similar to ours but they divide the secondary school into middle school and high school. Koreans do not need to pay tuition fees. The books are also free. My Korean friend, Jin told me that their school (Jungsan) is the best school in Korea.
In the afternoon, we went to Hanyang University to have traditional Korean lunch. Hanyang University is one of the best technology Universities in Korea. We visited the chemistry Lab and physics Lab. Later, we listened to a talk about Korea's technological development. Our dinner was held in a Chinese Restaurant. After dinner, each participating territory had to perform a show. All of us had great fun there.

July 31st The third day we visited 2 companies, Microsoft and LG. LG is the coagent of Microsoft. LG mobiles are all using Microsoft operating system (MS mobile 6.0). The Microsoft office in Korea is bigger than the Hong Kong office. We visited the Xbox office, server room for Vista, relaxing room, etc. The most exciting thing was the IE- 8 presentation and all of us could have a look. After the visit, we had lunch in a Korean restaurant. Our meal was a ginseng chicken soup, but I hate chicken very much.
LG Company is a famous electronic technology company in Korea. Their office is divided into two impressive wings (East and West). It is a huge building standing on an island in Seoul City. The architecture is remarkable. Inside the building, even the restrooms are also full of technology. All toilet bowls are electronic. You only need to push a button to control it. I have never seen it in Hong Kong. We had a talk as usual. The talk introduced the future events that LG might produce for us.
In the evening, all groups had to present their technology products devised by themselves. Our product is a Braincom, which is installed inside the brain and we can work with it like a computer. We went back to the hotel at 10:00pm to have a party. We shared our feelings and discussed about everything that came to our minds.

August 1st The last day we visited the Gyeongbokgung Palace, it is a great palace for Korea Kings long time ago. I bought some souvenirs there. I am very glad to have a chance to go on this trip. I met lots of friends (especially Koreans Jin, Ann, Na, and Hani.) Although all of us are from different backgrounds, we can still communicate with each other. This is the most memorable trip for me.
